Dr. Spurgeon!

Dr. Kyle Spurgeon successfully defended his PhD dissertation “Characterization of Scintillation Light in Large Liquid Argon Detectors and the Implications on Proton Decay Searches” on Thursday, June 16!  He gave a great presentation and shared some of his interesting work on xenon doping in LArTPCs and how things worked out for ProtoDUNE.  Congratulations to Kyle, and his advisor Denver!

Dr. Yallappa Dombara!

Dr. Abhilash Yallappa Dombara successfully defended his PhD dissertation about “Constraining Beam Backgrounds and Analyzing the Detector Response in a Test Beam with the NOvA Experiment” on May 26!  He did a great job, and it was good to see him back in person in Syracuse for the occasion!  Congrats to Abhilash (and his advisor Denver!)!

SBND, and Best Wishes to Monica!

The first coupled SBND APAs are now vertical in the D0 Assembly building!  Ohana and Monica have been involved in this work happening at Fermilab.

Speaking of Monica, as of  October she has moved to a Guest Scientist position at Fermilab. Congratulations!  We’ll miss her being a Syracuse postdoc, but are super excited that she’ll continue her work on SBND as a Fermilab scientist!

Dr. Bhat!

Shame on me for taking so long to post this, but, Congratulations to Dr. Avinay Bhat!   Avinay successfully defended his dissertation back in May, via Zoom (so no good photographs unfortunately), and told us all about his exciting work to develop tools to study MeV-scale physics in MicroBooNE.  Now he’s off to Yale for a postdoc working on neutrinoless double-beta decay.  Well done Avinay!
